I know a little flower Whose beauty is so rare It grows along the hedgerows In the countryside so wild
Its flower is so precious Gentle, soft and sweet With thorns so sharp and prickly It’s very seldom picked
It can be moved and planted In city plots and pots And will at first appear to live Before it slowly fades and dies
This flower cannot be constrained Nor moulded or contained It needs to grow and ramble Along its country lanes
I am so like this little flower So prickly, soft and sweet My need to grow and flourish Untamed so wild and free
Those brave enough to tackle The thorny stems so long Will find a heart of pure gold Hidden like the wild, wild rose
So those of you who wish to view This little wild, wild rose Please remember to leave me be Along my hedgerows green
And only then the nectar sweet Will flow from me to you And be released to comfort you In times of stress and need
You need not beg nor plead Or offer any pay But open up a heart of gold To drink this nectar sweet
But please respect my need to grow And live my life just so With untamed love and boundless space Alive and well and loving strong
Do not restrict my rambling ways Or crush my dreams with feet of clay But just allow me space to grow And blossom like the wild, wild rose.
